A car veered off the road and plunged into the Boralaweli Canal in Saindamarudu earlier today, police said.
Army personnel responding to the scene managed to rescue all three occupants who were trapped inside the submerged vehicle. They were rushed to hospital for treatment but were pronounced dead shortly afterward.
