The southern section of the old Bentara Bridge, which had been closed to traffic, collapsed last night (26).
Built around 1902, the bridge has been a key point on Galle Road, connecting the Western and Southern Provinces. It had fallen into disrepair in recent years, prompting the previous government to close it and construct a new bridge.
The old bridge has also been a popular spot for tourists and photographers over the years.
