A 22-year-old youth from Palamkudawa has died following a boating accident in the Palamkudawa lagoon, Kalpitiya, police said.
The incident occurred while the victim was travelling to repair and inspect a boat engine that had malfunctioned. The boat capsized during the trip, leading to the youth drowning in the lagoon.
Residents rescued the victim and rushed him to the Kalpitiya Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after admission.
Kalpitiya Police have launched further investigations into the incident.
