A growing number of Sri Lankans are seeking employment opportunities abroad, with Israel emerging as a key destination for skilled construction workers in 2025.
According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Governments of Sri Lanka and Israel, 3,575 Sri Lankans have been employed in Israel’s construction sector so far this year. The latest group of 77 workers departed recently, receiving their air tickets at a ceremony held at the Sri Lankan Bureau Auditorium, presided over by Bureau Chairman Kosala Wickramasinghe.
Looking ahead, 152 more workers are set to leave for Israel in late November, while another 464 are preparing for departure in early December, reflecting a steady flow of skilled labor to the country.
Within the infrastructure sub-sector, 252 Sri Lankans have already gone abroad this year, with 34 more preparing to join.
The Bureau emphasized that this movement is part of a broader effort to send skilled workers overseas for higher-paying professional roles, highlighting a shift in employment patterns as Sri Lankans increasingly explore opportunities in Israel, Europe, and East Asia. The trend signals a rising interest among local workers in pursuing international careers beyond traditional markets.
