A 40-year-old doctor attached to the outpatient department of the Wetara District Hospital in Kahathuduwa has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 26-year-old female patient, the Kahathuduwa Police said.

According to police, the victim had first sought treatment at the hospital on November 12 for an illness and, following a doctor’s instructions, underwent a urine test. She had returned to the hospital on November 19 with the test results to receive further treatment.

Investigations revealed that the suspect doctor, who had previously issued instructions regarding her test, took the complainant’s medical records while ignoring other patients, and directed her to a room where no female staff members were present. It was in this room that the alleged sexual assault took place.

Police said the victim was later issued forensic medical forms, and both parties were summoned today (24) for further inquiry. Following the inquiry, the doctor was arrested.

The suspect to be produced before the Kesbewa Magistrate’s Court.
