The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) said that 200,000 new taxpayers have been registered during the past year.
Commissioner General of Inland Revenue, Rukdevi Fernando said that 18,000 new companies were also registered during the same period.
She revealed this while addressing a media briefing held at the Government Information Department.
“This year, the Inland Revenue Department was given an 18% higher revenue target compared to last year. Last week, the department achieved the highest revenue collection in history, surpassing the Rs. 2 trillion target. At present, the Inland Revenue Department has collected Rs. 2,080 billion,” Mrs. Fernando said.
