The deputy in-charge of the A/L examination centre at Punarin Nallur Maha Vidyalaya in Kilinochchi has been suspended from examination duties with effect from today (24), and has been barred from entering the examination hall.
According to reports, the officer had arrived for duty on November 21 while heavily intoxicated. He had allegedly caused a disturbance inside the examination centre, clashing with two other staff members and behaving in a disorderly manner.
Following a complaint, authorities conducted a preliminary investigation, which confirmed that the deputy in-charge had been under the influence of alcohol while on duty. As a result, he was immediately removed from all examination responsibilities.
A separate inquiry into his conduct has now been launched at the Ministry of Education level.
