A 52-year-old resident of Suriyaara was arrested in the Batuwewa area of Thanamalwila for illegal excavation of artifacts, the Thanamalwila Police said.
Several excavation tools used in the unlawful activity were also seized during the operation.
Police confirmed that further investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the illegal excavation.
