On 20th November 2025, US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Jiyoon Chung met with Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya at Parliament to discuss strengthening educational ties between the two countries.
Ambassador Chung highlighted programs such as the United Nations Peace Corps Educational and Cultural Exchange Program and the Fulbright International Scholar Exchange Program, which provides students and scholars from over 160 countries the opportunity to study, teach, and engage in research and cultural exchange.
Prime Minister Dr. Amarasuriya emphasized the need for technical expertise in the Ministry of Education, Department of Examinations, and National Institute of Education to support upcoming educational reforms. She stressed the importance of building a collaborative learning environment aligned with the country’s human development priorities.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from both sides. The US delegation included Public Affairs Officer Ms. Menaka Nayyar, Executive Director of the US-Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission Dr. Patrick McNamara, and Professor Prabha Manurathna from the University Grants Commission. The Sri Lankan delegation included Ms. Sagarika Bogahawatte, Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister, and Ms. Pramudhitha Manusinghe, Director of the Europe and North America Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
