Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody has reportedly submitted written legal representations to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), which is conducting a probe into claims that he misappropriated funds during his tenure at the Fertiliser Corporation in 2015.

The minister has requested that his written submission be considered before CIABOC proceeds with filing legal action.

Earlier, CIABOC’s Director General Ranga Dissanayake received approval from the Commission to initiate legal proceedings against the minister.

The High Court case is expected to be filed against Minister Jayakody and two others over allegations of misappropriating Rs. 8 million.

At the time of the alleged offence, Mr. Jayakody served as the head of the tender board responsible for awarding the tender that has come under investigation.
