The death toll from the collapse of a mound of earth onto a shop in the Lower Kadugannawa area has risen to four.
Rescue teams recovered the bodies of two additional victims — including a woman — who had been trapped beneath the rubble. Hospital authorities confirmed that both individuals were pronounced dead upon admission.
Search and rescue operations are continuing to locate other persons believed to be still trapped.
Earlier, one woman was reported dead at the scene of the accident, while a man who was rescued from under the debris succumbed to his injuries while being transported to hospital.
