The Tourism Promotion Bureau has expressed concern over social media posts by foreign tourists that could damage Sri Lanka’s reputation.

Bureau Chairman Buddhika Hewawasam said steps have been taken to alert social media platforms about a foreign tourist involved in posting a video showing an argument with a local person while playing snake in the Weligama tourist sea zone. The video has since been removed following a formal complaint.

The Bureau also highlighted recent content related to the sexual harassment of a foreign national woman, stressing the potential negative impact on the country’s tourism industry.

Chairman Hewawasam warned that legal action will be pursued against any foreign nationals who engage in behavior that harms Sri Lanka’s tourism image in the future.
