Four attorneys currently serving as Additional Solicitors General (ASG) at the Attorney General’s Department were sworn in as President’s Counsel (PC) yesterday during a ceremonial sitting of the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court ceremony carried an air of solemnity and anticipation, blending dignity with the quiet weight of history.
The newly appointed PCs, Hiranjan Peiris, Azard Navavi, Lakmali Karunanayake, and Sudarshana De Silva, were recognised for their decades of service to the official bar.
In a first for Sri Lanka, the attorneys did not sign their appointments with pen and paper. Instead, they affixed their signatures electronically, pressing a digital screen four times to complete the process.
Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, at the conclusion of the formalities, highlighted the significance of this historic transition.
