The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested two additional Excise Corporals in connection with the robbery of over Rs. 102 million from two gold shops in Hettividiya, Colombo 11, which was carried out under the pretext of a legal raid.

Earlier, four Excise Corporals and an Excise Inspector had been arrested and remanded in connection with the case. All the officers involved are attached to the Gothatuwa Narcotics Bureau of the Excise Department.

According to the CID, on June 5, the suspects entered the two gold shops claiming to conduct a raid and looted Rs. 102 million, while also arresting seven employees of the shops. The raid was allegedly staged under the guise of seizing illegally imported and hidden cigarettes.
