The Sri Lanka Navy, in coordination with the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB), intercepted a fishing vessel suspected of transporting narcotics off the southern coast yesterday (November 20). The vessel, carrying six local fishermen, was brought to Tangalle Fisheries Harbour last evening.

A former Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) member of the Pannala Pradeshiya Sabha was later arrested in connection with the operation, authorities said.

Officials revealed that the Navy seized over 115 kilograms of heroin packed into 100 packets and more than 261 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (‘Ice’) contained in 200 packets. In addition, two firearms—a revolver and a pistol—along with two magazines were recovered from the vessel.
