The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has recorded the highest tax revenue in its history, collecting Rs. 2,002,241 million as of November 17.
In a statement issued yesterday (18), the IRD announced that this year’s revenue marks an increase of Rs. 60,079 million compared to 2024, when collections amounted to Rs. 1,942,162 million.
The Department noted that surpassing the Rs. 2 trillion mark within the first eleven months of the year represents a major boost to the government’s financial stability.
Commissioner General of Inland Revenue Rukdevi P. H. Fernando expressed gratitude to taxpayers for adhering to tax laws and contributing to national development. She also thanked officials from state and private institutions for their cooperation and commitment, which she said played a crucial role in achieving the record-breaking revenue.
The IRD highlighted that consistent taxpayer compliance and strong institutional support were central to reaching this historic milestone.
