The Sri Lanka Police have clarified that reports circulating in the media claiming that a character certificate from the Chairman of the Civil Security Committee (Public Safety Committee) is required to obtain a police clearance report are false.
According to the Police, the correct procedure for obtaining a police report is as follows: for local employment or travel to Middle Eastern countries, applicants must submit a request letter, Grama Niladhari certificate, and National Identity Card to the police station of their residence. After proper investigation, the police station will issue the report.
For applications through the online system for employment, education, or residence in countries outside the Middle East, police clearance reports are issued after uploading the necessary documents and completing the standard investigation process.
The Police emphasized that a character certificate from the Chairman of the Public Safety Committee is **not required** for issuing police clearance reports. Authorities warned that publishing false information on this matter is misleading to the public, and the Police will take necessary action against such misinformation.
