The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reiterated that Sri Lankans living illegally in Italy are not eligible to obtain passports through the Sri Lankan Embassy in Rome.
Officials stated that passports can only be issued to Sri Lankan nationals who are legally residing in foreign countries, in accordance with international regulations and host-country requirements. The Embassy is currently processing applications strictly based on the legal documentation provided by residents in Italy.
Authorities emphasised that there is no system in place to issue passports to Sri Lankans without legal residency status, and all passport services will continue to be carried out in line with Italy’s legal framework.
