‘Dora’, the well-known lioness from the Ridiyagama Safari Park in Hambantota, who became famous after being rejected by her mother at birth, has now embraced motherhood with three cubs of her own.
Dora’s mother, Lara, refused to care for her soon after she was born, prompting zookeepers to hand-raise the abandoned cub. Under their dedicated care, Dora grew into a healthy adult lioness.
Now, Dora has given birth to three cubs and, unlike her own mother, has become a devoted and affectionate caregiver. She is raising the cubs alongside her partner, Wally the lion.
Safari park authorities said Dora’s one-and-a-half-month-old cubs are expected to be presented to the public in December.
