The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has issued a new order imposing maximum retail prices (MRP) on several categories of canned fish, effective from November 15.
According to the Extraordinary Gazette No. 2462/40 dated November 14, 2025, no local manufacturer, packer, distributor, or trader will be permitted to sell or display for sale the listed varieties of canned fish above the newly stipulated prices.
Accordingly, a 155g can of tuna with a drained weight of 105g or more will be priced at Rs. 165, while a 425g can with a drained weight of 280g or more will be sold at Rs. 380. The price of mackerel has been fixed at Rs. 210 for a 155g can and Rs. 480 for a 425g can meeting the required drained weight.
Jack mackerel will carry the highest pricing among the listed varieties, at Rs. 240 for a 155g can and Rs. 560 for a 425g can.
The CAA also announced that this new order rescinds Order No. 92 issued on December 27, 2024.
