The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning of thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning likely to affect the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central, and Uva provinces.

The Meteorology Department has cautioned that these storms may bring temporary localized strong winds and urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimize risks from lightning activity.

Authorities advise residents to:

Seek shelter indoors, avoiding trees and open areas.

Stay away from paddy fields, tea plantations, and open water bodies during thunderstorms.

Refrain from using wired telephones and electric appliances connected to the mains.

Avoid open vehicles, including bicycles, tractors, and boats.

Exercise caution around fallen trees and downed power lines.

In case of emergencies, people are advised to contact local disaster management authorities for assistance.

The Department of Meteorology urges everyone to remain vigilant as severe weather conditions continue across the affected regions.
