Tamim Rahman, owner of the Dambulla Thunders, was indicted by the Colombo High Court today (12) for allegedly attempting to influence a cricketer in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) to fix a match.
The case was heard before Colombo High Court Judge Udesh Ranatunga, who received the indictment filed by the Attorney General. Rahman was released on a cash bail of Rs. 200,000 and two surety bonds of Rs. 100,000 each.
President’s Counsel Kalinga Indatissa, representing Rahman, said the defendant, a Bangladeshi national holding British citizenship, had been in Sri Lanka for over a year and a half due to the case, which disrupted his personal and business activities. Indatissa added that Rahman has pleaded guilty and is ready to conclude the case, having made oral and written representations to the Attorney General.
The State Counsel requested a date for the Attorney General to clarify the position on the defendant’s representations. The court scheduled the next hearing for December 8.
