Sameera Danushka de Silva of the Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) has been officially gazetted as the new Chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha, following the death of former Chairman Lasantha Wickramasekera.
Wickramasekera, popularly known as ‘Midigama Lasa,’ was elected to the post on July 24 after securing victory in a closely contested 23-22 vote against the National People’s Power (NPP).
He died on October 22 after being shot inside his office in broad daylight, creating a vacancy now filled by de Silva.
