The Executive Director of a private company, arrested on charges of causing environmental damage at the Aruwakkalu archaeological site, has been remanded until November 25.

He was produced before the Puttalam Magistrate’s Court yesterday following his arrest by the Walana Central Corruption Unit.

According to police, the suspect was taken into custody after providing statements for nearly 12 hours.

The arrest comes amid an ongoing investigation by the Walana Central Corruption Unit, launched in response to a petition submitted to the Inspector General of Police by residents of the Wanathawilluwa area, alleging severe environmental harm to the protected site.
