Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala has assured that there is no security threat to Sri Lanka following the recent explosions reported in India and Pakistan.
Speaking to the media, the Minister emphasized that Sri Lanka’s intelligence and security agencies remain fully active and vigilant, ensuring that the country’s national security remains uncompromised.
“Currently, no information has been revealed about such a threat. The intelligence agency in Sri Lanka remains active. Our security agencies, especially the tri-forces and the police, are particularly attentive to national security. Therefore, there is no problem with national security,” he said.
Commenting further, Minister Wijepala also addressed questions regarding reports that certain underworld figures abroad were planning to return to Sri Lanka.
Clarifying the matter, he stated:
“No, I did not say that a group of underworld figures are willing to come to Sri Lanka. What I said was that some drug traffickers have expressed their desire to leave. If those involved in drug trafficking are trying to leave, that is a good situation.”
The Minister reiterated that the government continues to monitor both domestic and international developments closely to safeguard national security.
