Sri Lanka’s rising table tennis prodigy Taavi Samaraweera has made history by climbing to No. 3 in the latest Under-11 Boys’ World Table Tennis Rankings, marking the highest-ever global ranking achieved by a Sri Lankan player in any age category.
According to the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) rankings released this week, Samaraweera made an extraordinary leap of 52 places, securing 200 ranking points to claim the third spot. He now trails only Joseph Sebatindira of Uganda and Rabeah Al-Kuwari of Qatar, who occupy the first and second positions, respectively.
This remarkable achievement highlights the rapid progress of the young athlete and signals a bright future for Sri Lanka’s table tennis scene. Samaraweera’s performance has not only brought pride to the nation but also placed Sri Lanka prominently on the global table tennis map.
