The Marine Environmental Protection Authority (MEPA) is set to deploy robotic machines designed to automatically collect floating waste from rivers, lakes, and other water bodies across Sri Lanka.
Reports indicate that the machines will utilize 5G technology, enabling real-time monitoring and improving the efficiency of waste collection.
The inaugural program introducing these machines was held under the patronage of Environment Minister Dr. Dhammika Patabendi, signaling a major step forward in the modernization of waste management and environmental protection in the country’s waterways.
MEPA officials said the initiative aims to reduce water pollution and promote sustainable management of aquatic ecosystems, combining technology and environmental stewardship.
