The Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) has issued a warning to all registered doctors following multiple complaints from the public and pharmacists about false or illegible prescriptions.
These problematic prescriptions have made it difficult for patients and pharmacists to correctly identify medications, creating risks to patient safety and the proper dispensing of medicines.
In response, the SLMC has reminded doctors to strictly follow the guidelines outlined in the chapter “Prescription Writing and Rational Prescribing” of the “Guidelines on Ethical Conduct for Medical and Dental Practitioners”.
The council emphasized that failure to comply will be treated as professional misconduct, and disciplinary action can be taken under the Medical Disciplinary (Procedure) Regulations of 1990.
The warning comes as part of an official order issued by the Sri Lanka Medical Council.
