A private bus accident in the Jayaganga Junction area of Thalawa, Anuradhapura, has claimed the life of an Advanced Level student, while around 40 others have been injured.
Hospital sources said that the injured passengers are currently being transported to hospitals in Thalawa and Anuradhapura for treatment. Several are reported to be in serious condition.
The accident occurred when the bus, which had been traveling from the Thalawa area towards Village 411, overturned due to circumstances that are yet to be confirmed. Police said investigations are underway to determine whether speeding, driver negligence, or a technical fault led to the crash.
Residents of the area and emergency services assisted in transporting the injured to hospitals.
