A 41-year-old man died following an accident during a soft-ball cricket match held at the Walagamba grounds in Aluthepola, Minuwangoda on Sunday (Nov. 9), police said.
The incident occurred when two fielders collided while attempting to catch a high ball during the match. One of the players sustained critical injuries in the collision and was rushed to the Minuwangoda Hospital. However, he later died while receiving treatment.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of Katuwallegama. The body has been placed at the Minuwangoda Base Hospital mortuary, pending a post-mortem examination.
Minuwangoda Police have commenced further investigations into the incident.
