The second reading debate on the 2026 Budget is set to commence in Parliament today (08), according to the Parliamentary Communications Department.

The Department further announced that the second reading vote on the Appropriation Bill (2026 Budget) is scheduled to take place on Friday, November 14 at 6.00 p.m.

Following this, the committee stage debate (third reading) will be held over 17 days, starting from November 15, with the final vote on the budget expected on December 5 at 6.00 p.m.

Parliament will sit daily throughout the budget period, excluding public holidays and Sundays, to facilitate the debate and passage of the budget.

The 2026 Budget was presented to Parliament yesterday afternoon (November 7) by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who also serves as the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies.
