Deputy Labour Minister Mahinda Jayasinghe said the Government is committed to promoting decent work within the care sector.
Labour Ministry Secretary S. M. Piyatissa noted that legal and policy reforms are being planned to strengthen the country’s care infrastructure and to give greater recognition to care work.
Secretary to the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, Tharangani Wickramasinghe, stressed the importance of valuing both paid and unpaid care work. She said as the population ages, the care burden will fall more heavily on women, making it essential to ensure affordable and accessible care for all.
