The Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel has confirmed that three Sri Lankan migrant workers were attacked in a series of reported chemical-laced water assaults targeting foreign workers in the country.
In a statement issued from Tel Aviv, the Embassy said it was alerted to social media reports and videos showing groups spraying foreign workers with chemically mixed water in isolated areas. The attacks appear to have targeted individuals traveling alone, with three Sri Lankans among those affected.
The Embassy has formally notified the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Population and Immigration Authority (PIBA), calling for urgent measures to protect all foreign workers, including Sri Lankans.
Israeli police have arrested five teenagers aged between 13 and 19 in connection with the first reported incident. The suspects remain in custody as authorities analyze CCTV footage and other evidence to identify additional perpetrators.
Sri Lankan workers in Israel have been advised to remain cautious, avoid traveling alone—especially when sending money home—and keep valuables secure. They have also been urged to use local emergency hotlines (100 for police and 101 for ambulance services) and contact the Embassy’s 24-hour hotline (+94718447305) in case of emergencies.
The Embassy added that Israeli security agencies are closely monitoring the situation and taking steps to prevent further assaults on foreign workers.
