The inaugural budget draft of the Kolonna Pradeshiya Sabha, administered by the National People’s Power (NPP), was defeated yesterday (06) during its monthly meeting held under the patronage of Chairman Sampath Gunasinghe.

The budget, presented for the first time by the NPP administration, was put to a vote in the morning session, where opposition members joined forces to defeat it.

The Kolonna Pradeshiya Sabha comprises 9 members from the NPP, 5 from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), 3 from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), 1 from the United National Party (UNP), and 1 from the Sarvajana Party.

Although the NPP secured 9 seats compared to the combined opposition’s 10 at the last local government election, the party managed to gain control of the council after winning the chairmanship through a secret ballot.
