National People’s Power (NPP) member of the Hingurakgoda Pradeshiya Sabha, Saman Udaya Kumara, has been arrested following an incident in which he is alleged to have obstructed police officers at the Hingurakgoda Police Station.
Police said the councillor had entered the station and behaved disruptively, claiming his younger brother had been unfairly arrested. The brother was taken into custody the previous day on suspicion of obstructing Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) officials who had arrived at his residence to disconnect the electricity supply.
Officers reported that the Pradeshiya Sabha member attempted to interfere with police duties and create a disturbance within the station premises.
He is expected to be produced before the Hingurakgoda Magistrate’s Court today.
