According to reports, with the commencement of the fishing season, a stock of about 15,000 kg of this fish was found in a fishing net in Udappuwa.
On Saturday (01) afternoon, when the net was inspected, the fishermen informed the owner of the net that a large quantity of fish had been caught.
Since the fish caught with a single net could not be handled and the fish escaped back into the sea, two additional nets, Kalinathan and Siri, were urgently deployed to secure the harvest.
It is further reported that due to the adverse weather conditions prevailing in the last two weeks, fishermen, including those using fishing nets, have not been able to catch a significant quantity of fish so far.
