The Teachers’ and Principals’ Trade Union Alliance has given the government time until November 7 to reverse its decision to extend the duration of the school term.
Speaking at a media briefing held in Colombo, Joseph Stalin, General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union, said that if the government fails to withdraw the decision, the alliance will launch island-wide trade union action during the first week of December.
He stressed that teachers and principals strongly oppose the move, which they say places an additional burden on the education sector.
