Sri Lanka today kicked off its inaugural three-day workshop on emergency response for aircraft incidents, held at the Civil Aviation Authority Auditorium in Katunayake. The exercise, which began at 9:00 a.m., marks a significant step in enhancing the country’s aviation safety and crisis preparedness.
The workshop is a joint initiative by the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka, the Air and Naval Search and Rescue Coordination Centre, and the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre. It brings together a wide spectrum of stakeholders from the aviation and emergency response sectors to foster collaboration and coordinated action.
Seventy representatives from 21 government and private organizations—including the Police, Air Force, Navy, Army, Disaster Management Centre, Airports and Aviation Services Company, Department of Meteorology, Department of Immigration and Emigration, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Ministry of Fisheries, Ministry of Health, SriLankan Airlines, Fitz Air, and Cinnamon Air—are taking part in the exercise.
Following International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) guidelines, the workshop aims to strengthen Sri Lanka’s aviation safety framework, ensuring rapid and effective responses to aircraft incidents in both airspace and territorial waters. Officials emphasized that this initiative reinforces the nation’s reputation as a safe and reliable aviation hub in the region.
