A Saudi national has been sentenced to three months in prison after admitting to assaulting and injuring a flight attendant aboard a SriLankan Airlines flight. However, Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today (03) suspended the sentence for five years.
The suspect was charged by the airport police on three counts, including assault causing injury and intimidation. In addition to the suspended sentence, the court imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000.
According to the airport police, the incident occurred on October 26 aboard a SriLankan Airlines flight from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to Katunayake. The suspect reportedly became violent after being instructed by a flight attendant to fasten his seatbelt as the aircraft was preparing to land, leading to a verbal argument and subsequent physical assault.
