Former Sri Lanka captain Marvan Atapattu has urged for a complete social media ban on national cricketers, claiming that online distractions are undermining players’ focus and professionalism.

Atapattu stated that those representing the country should devote their full attention to training and performance, suggesting that staying away from social media — at least temporarily — would help players regain concentration and commitment.

“If players feel they need social media, they should retire from cricket. When you are representing your country, your focus should be only on your performance and preparation,” he emphasized.

Atapattu, who captained Sri Lanka across all formats and is known for his discipline and dedication, said that the growing influence of social media is negatively affecting the mindset and professionalism of some players.
