The Sri Lanka Navy has made significant strides in combating drug trafficking this year, seizing narcotics valued at approximately Rs. 400 billion during 2025.
According to Navy Spokesperson Commander Buddhika Sampath, naval operations carried out across multiple maritime zones have led to the confiscation of a total of 54,870 kilograms of drugs. This includes 1,888 kg of crystal methamphetamine (ICE), 754 kg of heroin, and 5,267 kg of Kerala cannabis, all intercepted through coordinated naval efforts.
In addition, the Navy has seized 1,683,691 narcotic pills during the same period.
Commander Sampath stated that the Navy continues to implement intensive measures to prevent drug smuggling via sea routes, with enhanced long-range vessel deployment and strengthened maritime surveillance operations now in effect to curb the growing narcotics trade around Sri Lankan waters.
