The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has decided to launch a comprehensive investigation into the assets of senior officers of the Police and the Tri-Forces.
In the first phase, the Commission will review the asset files of senior officers in these institutions before expanding the probe to include junior officers. The investigation will later extend to officials of the Prisons Department, Sri Lanka Customs, and the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
Due to limited staff, the Commission is considering recruiting additional personnel on a contractual basis and has already held internal discussions in this regard.
This decision follows reports indicating close links between certain officers in these institutions and organized criminal groups. Internal investigations have already been initiated against several senior Army and Police officers allegedly connected to such networks.
