Five suspects have been arrested by the Galle Divisional Crime Investigation Unit for the possession of a stock of foreign cigarettes imported to Sri Lanka without paying customs duty.
The arrests were made during a raid conducted under the island-wide “Rata Ma Ekata” operation in the Galle area.
Police said that around 19,000 cigarettes, valued at approximately Rs. 2 million, were seized during the operation.
The suspects are residents of Poddala and Milidduwa areas. Further investigations into the incident are underway.
