The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the development of Sri Lanka’s port sector.
A delegation from the ADB’s Transport Division met with Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation, Anura Karunathilaka, and Deputy Minister Janith Ruwan Kodituwakku at the Ministry office yesterday (29).
Takafumi Kadono, ADB Country Director for Sri Lanka, highlighted the Bank’s long-standing partnership with the country, dating back to the 1970s. He noted the ADB’s financial support for major projects, including the second phase of the Western Container Terminal and the updating of the National Ports Master Plan.
Congratulating Minister Karunathilaka on his new role, Kadono assured that the ADB would continue providing both financial and technical support to strengthen Sri Lanka’s maritime and transport sectors.
Minister Karunathilaka thanked the ADB for its continuous support and long-term cooperation. He said the government looks forward to closer collaboration in the years ahead to further improve the nation’s port and transport infrastructure.
Officials from the ADB headquarters in Manila, as well as ministry staff, participated in the meeting both online and in person.
