The latest audit of the financial statements of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) for the year ending December 31, 2024, has revealed that the Bureau spent over Rs. 10 million on a new tourism logo launched in 2023 without obtaining the required approval.

According to the audit report, the logo has been changed five times over the past 15 years in an effort to boost tourist arrivals. The most recent redesign, costing Rs. 10,029,207, was carried out without authorization from the relevant authorities.

In response, Bureau management stated that the logo change had occurred 12 years ago, but acknowledged that the related documentation could not be located.

The Auditor General has recommended that proper approvals be secured before implementing any future logo or branding changes to ensure accountability and compliance.
