A special Sri Lanka Navy ship has been dispatched to rescue fishermen from a multi-day fishing vessel that capsized in the southeastern sea area of the country.
The Navy stated that the ship has been deployed to the location, approximately 300 nautical miles off the southeastern coast, where the vessel had overturned.
According to available information, four of the six fishermen on board have been rescued by an Indonesian fishing vessel. However, there is still no information about the remaining two fishermen.
The capsized vessel had departed from the Devundara Fisheries Harbour on August 31 for fishing activities. The Fisheries Department said the vessel had been reported missing since October 16 by its owner.
It was further reported that a merchant ship passing near the location has expressed willingness to assist in taking the rescued fishermen on board, while the Fisheries Department and the Navy continue coordinated efforts to locate the missing crew members.
