The Central Cultural Fund (CCF) has announced that the lighting project at the famous Nine-Arch Bridge in Demodara has been delayed due to issues related to private land encroachment

CCF Director General Dr. Nilan Cooray said the delay occurred because private landowners objected to running the electricity lines required to power the transformer through their properties.

He added that alternative plans have already been made to obtain the electricity lines through another route to continue the project.

The lighting initiative, launched as part of efforts to develop a tourist zone around the Nine-Arch Bridge, was initially expected to be completed within this month but will now be extended until next month.

The project is being implemented jointly by the Central Cultural Fund and the Department of Railways to enhance the area’s appeal to both local and foreign tourists.
