Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development and Leader of the House, Bimal Ratnayake, inspected the proposed site for the Veyangoda Multimodal Freight Transport and Storage Center in Gampaha today (28).
The project, which aims to establish a Cargo Exchange Center, is part of the government’s national program to modernize the transport sector and enhance the efficiency of cargo transportation, particularly in support of the country’s import and export processes.
The center will be built on a 50-acre land in Veyangoda, currently underutilized and owned by the Food Department, transforming it into a key logistics hub in the Western Province.
Once completed, the new freight transport and storage complex is expected to support the nearby economic center, weekly market, military camp, and pharmaceutical warehouse, providing improved infrastructure and logistics facilities to boost regional trade and connectivity.
