Legal action is being taken against certain recruitment agencies that charged Sri Lankans large sums for jobs abroad, especially in Romania, without providing employment.
Some agencies reportedly took between 1.8 to 1.9 million LKR from applicants.
Officials said the Bureaucracy Act has limited enforcement and a new bill is being prepared to strengthen legal action against such fraud.
