Sri Lanka Customs Narcotics Control Unit has arrested an Indian national for attempting to smuggle 2.8 kilograms of heroin into the country through Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).
The 39-year-old suspect had arrived from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on SriLankan Airlines flight UL 315, which landed at 4:30 p.m. on October 26, 2025.
Customs officers uncovered 2,832 grams of heroin hidden in a false bottom of the suspect’s checked luggage during a thorough inspection. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth approximately Rs. 84.96 million.
Further investigations are underway by the Customs Narcotics Control Unit. The suspect and the seized drugs are to be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) for legal proceedings.
